Community Grant Update: Hannah Center Resident Bathroom Project

“Many of us come here during some of the hardest seasons of our lives. Trying to find stability and healing, not to mention figuring out how we fit in while learning to live with others who are on their own journeys. Something as simple as an extra bathroom makes a big difference in helping things feel a little more peaceful and giving us a small sense of personal space.” Hannah Center Resident.

The Hannah Center recently completed the addition of a brand-new bathroom to the home. Thanks to the generous support of Habitat for Humanity, local contractors, and a community grant from the Marshfield Area Community Foundation, the project was completed under budget. This much-needed space has already enhanced daily life for residents—reducing congestion and making it possible to add a fifth bedroom to the home.

A statement from Hannah Center director residents clearly reveals the daily impact of the addition:

“In the mornings, we have the space to get ready without feeling rushed or stressed because others need to get in the bathroom. It gives us an option without having to wait in line. That extra bit of calm can make the difference for our day to get started on a positive note. For those of us with children, having a second bathroom to use means everything. Being able to bathe our kids in the same timeframes before bed without juggling schedules helps us to get them settled and ready for bedtime. That helps us work to create good routines for our families. Those quiet moments before bedtime really help make all the difference for us with our kids. Plus, if there is sickness in the house, it helps us limit the spread by not having to use the same space. This bathroom isn’t just an addition to the house, it’s a gift. It has allowed us the respect of feeling like we have something of our own. It reminds us that we are supported and cared for while we are healing and having to learn to live together. Thank you for helping make Hannah Center feel less like a community shelter and more like a true home.”

The new upstairs bathroom represents far more than a home renovation—it’s a reflection of the Hannah Center’s commitment to dignity, peace, and growth for every woman and child who walks through its doors. By helping meet a basic daily need, this project has restored a sense of stability and personal space that supports each resident’s journey toward healing and independence. The Marshfield Area Community Foundation’s partnership in this effort reflects our dedication to strengthening our community by empowering local organizations that transform lives. This project reminds us that when our community comes together in generosity and purpose, we create not just better spaces, but brighter futures.

“Your support is truly a blessing. It will truly make a difference in the lives of our residents.” – Kimberly Bousum, Hannah Center Director
